Suncoast Soccer proudly announces the Andrew Monroe Scholarship. Andrew, the goalkeeper for our 2011 U19 Boys team, was killed in a car accident during his team's Region Cup tournament. With inspired purpose, the team won the Region Cup championship in his honor, qualifying the team to compete in the State President's Cup tournament. After winning their semi-final game at the President's Cup, they were beaten in the finals on penalty kicks after being tied at the end of regulation time and again after extra time. Andrew not only played on this U19 team, but was also the Suncoast Soccer Club's goalkeeper trainer for our younger aged keepers. Andrew was attending Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft Myers at the time of his death. Click here for Andrew's full Bio. Our Club wants to honor this team and their inspirational goalkeeper by establishing the Andrew Monroe Scholarship. Any player that plays on a Suncoast Soccer team during 3 of their 4 high school years, U15 through U18, is in good standing with our club, and enrolls in a post high school educational program, will qualify for a $500.00 scholarship in Andrew's honor. Because our teams play in the United Soccer Association league, each senior in our Club that attends college is eligible to apply for a $750.00 Joan Judd Grant from the league. The combination of this Grant along with the Andrew Monroe Scholarship is a fitting reward for all of our players and a real tribute to Andrew's legacy. We are the only soccer club on the West Coast of Florida that offers this opportunity. How to Qualify - There is nothing you need to do to qualify. We track all of our players during their high school playing years and will notify all that are eligible. Simply show us that you have enrolled in a continuing education program after high school and a $500.00 check will be submitted to the school as a credit toward your tuition. Information about the Joan Judd Grant is available at the website |
